What we’re doing for the federal election (week 3)

We’re less than three weeks away from a federal election which will be critical in determining how we address the climate crisis for generations to come.

Climate Action Burwood-Canada Bay will be active in the Reid electorate during the lead-up, but we need your help to get our message out.

We now know that there are seven candidates standing for election in Reid. They are, in ballot paper order:

Joanna Somerville GREENS
Grange Chung LIBERAL
David Sarikaya TRUMPET OF PATRIOTS
Gina Ingrouille PAULINE HANSON’S ONE NATION
Sally Sitou LABOR (sitting MP)
Clinton Mead LIBERTARIAN
Steven Commerford INDEPENDENT.

We can’t campaign for or against parties or candidates but we ask the candidates what they stand for, praise the best policies for the climate, and call out the bad ones.

This week we’ve seen two promising policy announcements:
Labor’s pledge for rebates on home battery storage,
and the Greens’ pledge for assistance for renters to access inexpensive solar power.
We look forward to any announcement from the Coalition that does not involve nuclear reactors or expanded gas production.

Climate Action Burwood-Canada Bay will be in touch with each candidate seeking their views on important climate and energy matters. We will pass on their answers as they come to hand.

How can you help us?

Our plan is to get our message out to as many people across the Reid electorate as we can in the next three weeks. Much of our activity will be happening in the last fortnight before the May 3 election date.

Our key slogan: Solar Saves. Nuclear Costs.

We need help in the following areas:

  • Putting flyers in letterboxes
  • Handing out flyers at railway stations, public spaces, pre-polling centres
  • Displaying and distributing yard signs
  • Talking with people on the theme of our key message
    “Solar Saves, Nuclear Costs”
  • Monitoring social media and the news for any issues that need a rapid response
  • Making short videos for Instagram, Youtube, Tiktok etc

The more people who volunteer with us, the more we can do.
