What We’re Doing For The Federal Election

The federal election is happening Saturday May 3. Climate Action Burwood-Canada Bay will be active in the Reid electorate during the lead-up, but we need your help to make this happen!

We cannot campaign for or against parties or candidates (the law prevents us doing this) but we can still promote the best policies for the climate, and call out the bad ones.

We want a parliament that contains people in both houses who will act in the best interest of the climate and deliver plans that reduce our emissions to net zero in the fastest possible time. We’re in a climate emergency. We know that!

With the cost-of-living high in everyone’s minds, we need solutions that will not harm the climate as we face a future with temperatures rising and weather patterns become more unstable and ferocious.

Our campaign at this election is based on three main principles:

  • Renewable energy is the way forward to Net Zero emissions;
  • Solar power is a cost-effective solution for home owners and renters;
  • Nuclear is not the answer. It is hugely expensive and will arrive much too late.

Our key slogan: Solar Saves. Nuclear Costs.

Our plan is to get our message out to as many people across the Reid electorate as we can in the next five weeks.

How can you help us?

We need help in the following areas:

  • Putting flyers in letterboxes
  • Handing out flyers at railway stations, public spaces, pre-polling centres
  • Displaying and distributing yard signs (more info later in this email)
  • Talking with people on the theme of our key message
    “Solar Saves, Nuclear Costs”
  • Various tasks at our in-person candidates forum night (to be confirmed)
  • Monitoring social media and the news for any issues that need a rapid response
  • Making short videos for Instagram, Youtube, Tiktok etc

The more people who volunteer with us, the more we can do.
