Speaking 4 The Planet

Last year on World Environment Day, June 5 2023, Climate Action Burwood-Canada Bay organised Speaking 4 The Planet, a climate awareness-raising competition for secondary schools in the local area.

It was hosted by Homebush Boys High School, and students from eight secondary schools competed in the areas of speaking, writing and art, on the theme of “One Planet, Our Future: Consume With Care“.

Participating schools were the Australian International Academy, Domremy College, Homebush Boys High, MLC Burwood, PLC Croydon, St. Patrick’s College, Strathfield Girls High and Strathfield South High.

Our three local councils (Strathfield, Burwood and the City of Canada Bay) supported the event, along with corporate sponsors Paddy Pallin, Westfield, Officeworks and Bunnings.

Guest speakers included Sally Sitou (Federal MP for Reid), Jason Yat-Sen Li (State
MP for Strathfield) and Stephanie di Pasqua (State MP for Drummoyne). Mayor of Strathfield, Karen Pensabene presented the prizes.

The event was such a success that the decision was made to turn it into an annual event. We are pleased to announce that Domremy College, Five Dock will be hosting Speaking 4 The Planet on World Environment Day, June 5 2024.
