Climate Action Burwood-Canada Bay hosted Professor David Karoly at its members and supporters meeting on 18 April 2023.

David Karoly is a Professor Emeritus (honorary) in the School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Melbourne and an honorary Senior Research Fellow in Melbourne Climate Futures, having retired from CSIRO at the end of January 2022. He is an internationally recognised expert on climate change and climate variability. He is also a part-time Councillor on the Climate Council, Australia. He was involved in the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) Assessment Reports in 2001, 2007, 2014 and 2021 in several different roles.

David gave a presentation titled “How good (or bad) are near-term climate projections for Australian cities?” which was followed by a Q&A session.

Climate Action Burwood Canada Bay (CABCB) is a non-partisan body of concerned citizens in the Burwood, Canada Bay and Strathfield LGAs of Sydney and the Reid federal electorate, on the traditional land of the Wangal people. Our goal is to inform and engage the local community about the worsening climate crisis and to influence business and governments to take strong and urgent climate action.
