Climate Action Burwood-Canada Bay hosted Cr Heidi Lee Douglas, CEO of Solar Citizens and newly-elected Deputy Mayor of Bayside Council, at its members and supporters meeting on Zoom on 26 November 2024.
Cr Douglas discussed the work of Solar Citizens and a number of its campaigns with the objective of bringing affordable renewable energy to housing across Australia. The main focus at this being in Queensland and New South Wales. Heidi spoke of the Electrify Wolli Creek project in her local government area, which aims to bring solar power to high-rise housing development – an issue that will become more relevant across Sydney as the NSW Government rolls out its Transport Oriented Development (TOD) Plan.
Among other campaigns Heidi discussed was the acceleration to Vehicle To Grid, which effectively uses stored energy in electric vehicle batteries to supplement grid supply. This is a campaign in which Climate Action Burwood-Canada Bay is currently an active participant.
Heidi also spoke of the threats that preoccupation with nuclear power would bring to the advancement of more viable renewables such as solar. The session ended with a Q&A with our engaged audience of dedicated CABCB supporters.
