Our next members and supporters meeting will be on Tuesday, September 24th from 6:30 to 8:00pm, via Zoom. Our guest speaker will be
Heidi Lee Douglas, National Director of
Solar Citizens.
Solar Citizens is an independent, community-based organization working to grow renewable energy and clean transport in Australia.
Anyone who attended our Smart Energy Expo in June may remember Heidi from the two panels she took part in (‘In Your Home’ and ‘Councils’). As well as her work with Solar Citizens, she is an independent councillor for Bayside Council in Sydney, and an award-winning film and television director. Her films include
Defendant 5, which follows the fight to save Tasmania’s native forests two decades ago. As a result of that campaign, Heidi and 19 others were sued by the woodchip giant Gunns for $6.4 million, for allegedly conspiring to destroy the company’s business. Heidi was defendant number five in the subsequent court case. Newly married, she and her husband risked losing everything, but mercifully the judge found in the defendants’ favour and Gunns went bankrupt. The forests were saved, and are now a World Heritage area.
Our members and supporters is open and free to all.
Register here and we’ll send you a link to join the meeting. It will be recorded for later viewing on our
Youtube channel.
