Won’t action on climate change cost ?

No! Climate change is already harming Australia with bushfires, floods and storms. But cutting our climate pollution and switching to renewable energy is also a win for our economy. Businesses and economists now say Australia’s economy would be boosted by $890 Billion, with 195,000 new jobs if we cut carbon emissions by 45 – 50% by 2030. But to do that, we must change our government.

What difference will my vote make ?

Reid is a marginal seat. That means it is a close contest between the 2 major parties, and it would only take a small number of voters to change who our MP is. That could change the government.

Voting for candidates who have good climate policies also shows all politicians that you think climate change is an important issue worth voting for. That means they are more likely to develop good policies on climate change.

What about my current MP ?

The current Liberal MP has said some things in support of climate action, but in Parliament votes against renewable energy and for new coal and gas. Click here to see how she votes.

Is there a ‘climate independent’ I can vote for in Reid ?

No. The only independent candidate (Natalie Baini) does not have policies for reducing emissions or tackling the climate crisis. She is a former member of the Liberal Party. Her 2 line statement on climate says she accepts the science and understands it is an important issue but it is unclear how she would vote on the crucial issues of ending Australia’s reliance on, and export of, fossil fuels.

Why are you telling us this?

We are not a political party. We are an independent group of ordinary people concerned about climate change. Read more about us here. We looked at the policies of every candidate and are recommending the ones who take climate action seriously.

Scientists say we can’t waste any time to reduce climate pollution. Economists say Australia could make a lot of money from renewable energy. But our PM wants to wait until 2050. We need to vote for climate action now.
